THE TREE OF LIFE
Originated in Polynesia Islands, their peoples transported root cuttings and air layered plants like breadfruit over great ocean distances. Beside being an important food source, they used the lightweight, termite resistant wood for buildings and canoes. The sticky latex produced by the tree was utilized not only as a caulking agent, but also to trap birds. The wood pulp was made into paper and used medicinally as well.
Over three hundred years ago due to its versatility and ability to grow in almost any soil condition, breadfruit was introduced to the Caribbean islands. Over time it became a favorite staple food in the diet of many islanders and a treasure of the Caribbean culture.

Being one of the highest producing food plants in the world and a major carbohydrate source, breadfruit has made its way into many caribbean recipes from homes, restaurants and hotels.
Without human intervention
They will likely mature on their own into fully grown breadfruit trees and regrow from stumps left after the original tree was cut down.
Now technology has reached its mass propagation, becoming available to the world.

Think of breadfruit as a tropical potato – it can be boiled, steamed, baked, or fried… except it’s more nutritious than potatoes!
It was one of several “super foods” in ancient times, along with taro and coconut. Half a cup of breadfruit provides 25% of the RDA for fiber and 5 to 10% of the RDA for protein, magnesium and potassium.
Breadfruit is gluten free, low in saturated fat. It has plenty of dietary fiber, complex carbohydrates, vitamin C, vitamin D and numerous other minerals like potassium, magnesium, copper, iron, calcium and antioxidants. Also contains some carotenoids and lutein which is not present in white rice or white potato.
